This past Friday, The Pelham Grand kicked off the Labor Day weekend with a beautiful BBQ that was attended by many of the tenants from The Pelham Grand, staff of ASCNYC, and Ken Kearns, District Manager for Community Board #10.

Guests were able to enjoy vegan and non-vegan hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, and many different salads. Everybody was thrilled with the sunny skies, nice temperature, and low humidity. The event was organized by Jill Clockadale, Associate Director for ASCNYC.

After eveyone was relaxed and full of food, I took some time to speak to those in attendance about the cookout.

Billy Vinton, a six month resident at Pelham Grand spoke about his experiences living there, “It was a  wonderful day for food and for fun. The folks here at the Pelham Grand did a great job. During the six months I have been here, the staff has shown genuine support with an open door policy. This has been a great place to reside.”

Jill Clockadale, Associate Director for ASCNYC explained, “I love parties and really love barbecues with good food, fun people, and a community spirit.”

“I love it since since I came here. My health is coming along nicely. I try to walk. I get good medical care in the community.” said Norman Dacosta, who especially praised the area, “I get food from Jamaican area in the Bronx. I used to work in this area so I get to see many people I know.”

The community is urged to stay tunes for future events to which they will be invited.

Jill Clockadale announced that residents and staff of the Pelham Grand will be participating in a Park Department sponsored clean-up on September 12th. We will be cleaning the green space area across the street from the Pelham Grand from Continental Avenue to Buhre Avenue. Members of Community Board #10, residents of the area, and others who want to keep our community clean are urged to join in this cleanup. Pizza, soda and more will be served to those helping.
