‘Deadpool’ Opening Weekend Shocks With $135 Million 3-Day, $150 Million 4-Day

 

Deadpool_Feel The Love Valentines DayWith these opening weekend numbers, ‘Deadpool’ takes the record for both biggest R-Rated movie opening ever and biggest President’s Day weekend opening ever. ‘Deadpool’ also had the second best debut ever for the first movie in a new superhero franchise, trailing only The Avengers $207.4 million debut.

 

comScore’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “Fox’s ‘Deadpool’ cranked up the R-rated volume and in the process captured a massive global audience looking for an edgy twist on the superhero genre with a $260 million opening weekend and smashed expectations in the process.   Meanwhile Chinese New Year had audiences in this powerhouse movie territory all abuzz with three homegrown titles taking the second, third and fourth place spots at the international box office.”

 

The animated film, ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ fell to second place domestically. ‘How To Be Single’ a bawdy buddy movie debuted in third place. ‘Zoolander 2’ and ‘The Revenant’ rounded out the top 5.
