Senator Klein Hosts Lunch and Discussion for Fleetwood Seniors

Fleetwood Senior Meetings are held in conjunction with the Weschester Jewish Community Services’ Senior Programming in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) hosted his first ‘Fleetwood Senior’ meeting of 2014 this afternoon at the Sinai Free Synagogue. The event, sponsored by Westchester Jewish Community Services, included lunch and a lecture given by Reverend Carol Fryer, Director of Spiritual Care and Church Relations at Wartburg, who discussed her experiences climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Over two dozen seniors from the Fleetwood area of Mount Vernon attended the event.

The office of Senator Klein has organized five events in the last year for seniors living in the north part of Mount Vernon who otherwise must travel for senior programming. Senator Klein, working with local organizations like the WJCS, is aiming to make Fleetwood Senior Meetings monthly. The next cooperative monthly event is already scheduled for Thursday, March 27, and will feature artist Sue Treiman showing slides of her works and discussing, “Color is Life!”  Free transportation is being offered for any Fleetwood residents attending.” Any Fleetwood seniors wishing to participate in future events can call Senator Klein’s office at 718-822-2049 for more information.

Senator Klein said: “I’m proud to offer opportunities for seniors from the Fleetwood area to come together monthly for activities, discussion and dining. These monthly Fleetwood Senior Meetings complement the senior programs run by the WJCS at the Mount Vernon Armory and I am happy that together, the WJCS and I are working to offer robust programming options for local seniors. That’s why I encourage seniors across Fleetwood to contact my office to learn more and let me know what types of programs they would like to see in the future.”

Rabbi Andrew Bossov, Director WJCS Senior Programs said:  “It’s an honor to be collaborating with Sen. Klein and his staff in order to provide even better programming for Fleetwood residents.  This is a direct response to constituents’ requests, and we are grateful for this opportunity to share our program facility, meals and transportation with our neighbors of all backgrounds and religious affiliations in a friendly environment.  It helps us fulfill our WJCS mandate: ‘Strengthen Lives; Shaping Futures.'”
