Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz will be supporting Senator Adriano Espallat in an upcoming Congressional primary battle, but former President Bill Clinton will throw his support to his “friend” Congressman Charlie Rangel with recorded campaign phone calls and emails, according to the Daily News:

“I’m happy to endorse my good friend Charlie Rangel,” Clinton said in a statement provided to the Daily News.
“Charlie has been a champion of more good jobs, successful small businesses, and strong families for more than 40 years. That’s what his district and our country need now.”

After 43 years in Congress, Rangel faces the toughest fight of his political career in the June 24 Democratic primary.
His chief opponent is state Sen. Adriano Espaillat (D-Manhattan), who nearly defeated Rangel in the 2012 Democratic primary.
Espaillat has been endorsed by City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., and is expected to be supported by city Controller Scott Stringer.” Read more here.
