“State Senator Jeff Klein has shown true leadership, both in Albany and right here in The Bronx. On the DREAM Act, women’s issues and more, Senator Klein has shown a deep commitment to the issues that matter to Latinas, and I am excited to stand with him today as we launch ‘Latinas for Klein.’ Senator Klein has built a broad coalition of support across his district and the entire state, and I am proud to be a part of that coalition as we work towards his victory in September,” said Mrs. Diaz.

Other politically connected residents include Councilwoman Annabel Palma, District Leaders Julia Rodriguez and Toni Figueroa, as well as Marjorie Velazquez-Lynch, 82nd District Leader, treasurer of the Liberty Democratic Club and wife of former District Leader and Councilman James Vacca Chief of Staff Jeff Lynch, who currently works as an Assistant Commissioner at the Department of Transporation are involved. Maria Gonzalez, a former district leader from Morris Park has joined up, as has Bronx Democratic County Committee Executive Director Ischia Bravo.

Gracias por su apoyo! I’m so proud to stand here with you and grateful for this tremendous showing of support,” said Senator Klein. “As mothers, grandmothers, and sisters, I know that education is a paramount concern. This year I fought to deliver $300 million to the City, allowing our children to attend free, full day universal pre-kindergarten. Over the past three years, I’ve brought home over $1.4 million in BOOST and bullet aid to enhance elementary and middle schools right here in our district. This year, I also secured increased child care subsidies so that women don’t have to make the difficult choice of keeping their

careers or staying home because child care is far too costly.”

Regarding her reason’s for supporting Klein, Councilwoman Annabel Palma cited Klein’s leadership in the State Senate that has benefited locals, particulary programs that promote health, as well as spearheading the Safe Act, a gun-control law that is regarded as one of the toughest and most comprehensive in the country.  In addition,
“He also supports the 10-point Women’s Equality Act, as well as being a steadfast supporter of The DREAM Act, which would enable undocumented immigrants access to state tuition assistance programs. These are just a few of the progressive initiatives that Senator Klein supports in his efforts to help realize a more just, and more egalitarian state of New York,” said Palma.“I support Senator Klein, as a friend, a colleague, and a partner in the Bronx, and I know that he will continue to be a concerned and effective leader for Latina women in the State Senate.”
In a recent outreach event, business owner Virna Lisy Crespo and Elizabeth Sepulveda, wives of Assemblymen Crespo and Sepulveda respectively (and busy moms of adorable youngins), signed up a crowd of over 50 women at Babalu on East Tremont to participate in the effort.
