Soundview Park Track & Field Ready For Runners

The track and field in Soundview Park is finally complete!

Tuesday morning, Bronx Park Commissioner Hector Aponte was joined by Congressman Jose Serrano, Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz, Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and Lucy Aponte, President of Friends of Soundview Park for the official ribbon cutting.

The $6 million project resulted in a 400 meter rubberized running field, an artificial turf soccer/football field, fitness units and bleacher seating.

After the ribbon was cut, Assemblyman Crespo and Congressman Serrano jogged a quarter mile in over 90 degree weather. They were accompanied by a local running group compromised of children and young adults.

In a borough that struggles with high obesity rates, these projects provide a safe and modern place to walk, jog or run.

Assemblyman Crespo and Friends of Soundview Park look forward to working together to host the Bronx’s largest sports tournament at Soundview Park next year.

The construction of an amphitheater near Rosedale Ave is still ongoing, but we may see its completion by the end of the year.
