In the Bedford Park Community Association meeting, held every first Wednesday of the month at 400E Mosholu Parkway South, 80th District Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj announced an upcoming law outlining that every borough will hold its the fair share of supportive housing. This new law, currently being written, will outline the perccentage of housing be determined by the relative size of the borough.

The Assemblyman let us know that he, like everybody else, wants to help those in need, but that it doesn’t mean that neighborhoods can be overcrowded with supporting housing. He commented on the shelter that’s being build in front of Donald Trump’s newest golf course. He, like many Bronxites, have made statements to the logic of implementing family and in-need housing in an area without proper support and infrastructure, such as grocery stores, transportation & schools.

The announcement was followed by multiple questions and comments. They all followed a common thread: The Bronx cannot keep receiving the most supportive housing, when it is trying to overcome its own economical problems.
