Students at Bronx HS for Law, Government and Justice Participate in Cablevision ‘Meet the Leaders @ School’ Event With Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Elected Leader/Students Discuss Topics of Importance to Young People in the Bronx

Bronx, NY, December 9, 2014 — As part of Cablevision’s year-long celebration of the Bronx Centennial, students in grades 9 through 12 at Bronx High School for Law, Government and Justice today took part in the popular Cablevision television show “Meet the Leaders @ School,” which was taped at the school. Along with the students, participating in the event was Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Following opening remarks by Cablevision emcee Shawna Ryan, Borough President Diaz discussed a variety of topics of importance to young people in The Bronx. Twelve students then posed one question each to Borough President Diaz on a range of issues, including housing for homeless youth in The Bronx, the employment outlook, the preservation of the Bronx River, making education more accessible for those in need, and more. Following the taping of “Meet the Leaders @ School,” Borough President Diaz participated in a “Youth Summit” roundtable discussion with students from throughout The Bronx.

“I congratulate each of the students participating in the filming of ‘Meet the Leaders @ School’ for their perceptive questions and interest in issues affecting our community,” said Borough President Diaz. “It is heartening to see young people motivated and involved in government affairs and clearly interested in making a difference. I would also like to thank Cablevision for bringing this important program to the students here today.”

“It is important that young people are knowledgeable about current affairs and the workings of our government,” said Cablevision Vice President of Public Affairs Jennifer Ostrager. “We are pleased to bring programs such as ‘Meet the Leaders’ into the classroom to provide an opportunity for the students like those at the Bronx High School for Law, Government and Justice to meet and engage with community leaders like Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.”
