Bronx Residents to Receive Free Assistance With Affordable Healthcare Insurance Signup on FRIDAY, JAN. 23

It’s the start of tax season and this is the first year that rules involving the Affordable Healthcare Act will have an impact on how you file.

For Bronx residents who do not have healthcare, NYC Council Member Andy King will be hosting a free Affordable Healthcare Enrollment Session on Friday, Jan. 23, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at his District Office, 940 East Gun Hill Rd. and Co-op City Office, 135 Einstein Loop, Room 45, Bronx.

Trained healthcare navigators will be available to assist Bronx residents who want help in signing up for coverage through the New York State of Health Marketplace.  Uninsured New Yorkers may be eligible for no or lower-cost health insurance through the New York State of Health Marketplace. The open enrollment deadline is February 15th, after which uninsured individuals may incur a financial penalty.

The navigators will also answer basic questions about health insurance and how it relates to tax filing. In most cases, tax fliers just need to check a box on their tax returns indicating that had health coverage for all of 2014. However, those who purchased coverage through the Health Insurance marketplace, or decided not to enroll in coverage, will need to take additional steps when filing their returns.

For more information, contact the Office of Council Member Andy King at (718) 684-5509. In addition, uninsured New Yorkers can call 3-1-1 or text CoveredNYC or SeguroNYC to 877877 to find in-person assistors throughout the city.
