The Legacy of the Civil War    
At 1 PM, Professor Adrienne Petty of City College explores the significance, aftermath and legacy of the Civil War, helping to culminate the site’s recognition of the sesquicentennial of the national conflict of 1861-1865.   Dr. Petty’s publications include,Standing Their Ground: Small Farmers in North Carolina Since the Civil War, published in 2013.  
 
Friday, Sept. 25, 2 to 5 PM
Public Lands Day
Join us for a recognition of Public Lands Day at St. Paul’s on Friday, September 25, 2015, from 2 to 5 PM.  The theme of the afternoon will be maintaining and gaining an appreciation of the trees on the historic grounds.  The public is invited to help prune selected trees, and our staff will offer walking tours with an emphasis on the history and variety of trees at St. Paul’s.
Thursday, Oct. 1, 10 AM      
A recognition of the renaming of local public schools after Rebecca and BenjaminTurnerformer slaves who established a family homestead in the shadows of St. Paul’s Church in the 19th century.   The event includes music on the historic Erben pipe organ, student presentations, and a floral tribute at the grave of Rebecca Turner.  The event helps to celebrate the centennial of the National Park Service, appreciating a more complete understanding of our nation’s history and urging a more inclusive future.
 
Thursday, October 1, 7 PM 
Lisa Parrot, Australian born, New York based jazz virtuoso, livens up the historic church with the deep sounds of the Baritone sax, accompanied by keyboard.
 
Fri., Oct. 9 3 PM
Beginning our autumn Friday afternoon series of music and history, Pamela Sklar, performs selections of music for flute from across the world
 
Monday, Oct. 12, Columbus Day recognition
The site is open, regular hours, 9 AM to 5 PM, with a 1 PM presentation the history of Columbus Day and ongoing children’s crafts projects related to the holiday.
