Mets Defeat Dodgers, 3-2. Face Cubs In NLCS

The Mets were celebrating. Again.

Their Daniel Murphy-fueled 3-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 5 gave them a National League Division Series victory, clinching their date in the NL Championship Series, which begins Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, TBS) against the Cubs at Citi Field.

As soon as Daniel Murphy delivered the go-ahead home run off Zack in the sixth inning, manager Terry Collins’ mind jumped to who would pitch the seventh.

The Mets needed a bridge — to get them from Jacob deGrom, who gutted through six innings despite missing the electric stuff and command that produced a dominant Game 1 win, to closer Jeurys Familia, who pitched the final two innings at Dodger Stadium for his first six-out save as New York advanced to the NL Championship Series.

Matt Harvey will start for the Mets against the Cubs in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET on TBS) at Citi Field, the club announced after Thursday’s 3-2 NL Division Series-clinching win over the Dodgers.

Harvey will be on normal rest when he opposes Cubs left-hander Jon Lester.
