SAT, NOVEMBER 14 FAMILY ART PROJECT: DANCES WITH LEAVES
Toss fall leaves in the wind, or walk through a giant leaf pile. Carefully gather your own collection of varied shapes, textures and sizes of gorgeous fall foliage, then let them inspire you to represent autumn on paper as you create artful, framed hangings of leaf designs and delicate leaf prints. Free, and admission to the grounds is free until noon.

SAT, NOVEMBER 14 TAI CHI CHUAN
Quiet like a mountain, moving like a river, Tai Chi Chuan is a sequence of gentle movements based on images found in nature. In this class, Irving Yee, a member of the William CC Chen Tai Chi School, introduces students to the internal martial arts, and promotes awareness of their health benefits. Students split into groups according to their level of expertise, exploring movements at their own pace, whether as beginners or more advanced students of Tai Chi. Session fee: $25/$15 Wave Hill Member. Advance registration online receives a $2 discount. Online registration closes at 8AM on the day of the session. Cancellations must be made by 3PM the Friday before; after that, refunds will not be made. Drop-ins will be accommodated as the limited space permits. The act of exploring, recording and recounting is central to the artistic practice of many artists. The fall exhibition, Field Notes, brings together three artists—Matthew Friday, David McQueen and Michelle Stuart—whose projects in Glyndor Gallery and on the grounds will encourage visitors to discover connections of their own. Tours take place Tuesdays and Saturdays at 2PM. Free with admission to the grounds.

Related to the morning glory, the sweet potato makes an attractive trailing vine for the garden and provides tasty tubers for the kitchen. Join Horticultural Interpreter Charles Day and a chef from Great Performances to discover how to grow and cook this versatile vegetable. This is the next-to-last of our “Matter of Roots” series of cooking demonstrations, focusing on earthy vegetables, both humble and exotic. Free with admission to the grounds.

A 28-acre public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades, Wave Hill’s mission is to celebrate the artistry and legacy of its gardens and landscape, to preserve its magnificent views, and to explore human connections to the natural world through programs in horticulture, education and the arts.
HOURS Open all year, Tuesday through Sunday and many major holidays: 9AM–5:30PM. Closes 4:30PM, November 1–March 14.
