SAT, DECEMBER 12 FAMILY ART PROJECT: CANDLES, SNOWFLAKES AND STARS
Fire and ice don’t usually go together, but as the winter days get shorter and colder, we’ll celebrate both! Take a simple candlestick and, using colorful, clay-like wax, mix and mold an inventive image of nature onto a candle, or let us show you how to make a woven string star or symmetrical button snowflake at this fun, seasonal bazaar. Free, and admission to the grounds is free until noon.

SAT, DECEMBER 12 TAI CHI CHUAN
Quiet like a mountain, moving like a river, Tai Chi Chuan is a sequence of gentle movements based on images found in nature. In this class, Irving Yee, a member of the William CC Chen Tai Chi School, introduces students to the internal martial arts, and promotes awareness of their health benefits. Students split into groups according to their level of expertise, exploring movements at their own pace, whether as beginners or more advanced students of Tai Chi. Classes are held indoors November through April. Session fee: $25/$15 Wave Hill Member. Advance registration online receives a $2 discount. Online registration closes at 8AM on the day of the session. Cancellations must be made by 3PM the Friday before; after that, refunds will not be made. Drop-ins will be accommodated as the limited space permits. Participants must present their Membership card or a printed program registration form at the front gate or purchase tickets at the Perkins Visitor Center. Drop by this weekend to create your own gifts and holiday decorations inspired by the gardens and galleries at Wave Hill. Explore the magic of felting while creating handmade felted soaps. Artist Anne Scully guides you through the process of felting, the art of transforming wool into dense, colorful cloth. Roll up your sleeves and practice bonding and shrinking the fibers using water, heat and agitation. Gift-giving never “felt” so good! $18/$10 Wave Hill Member per project. Each participant designs a verdant wreath or swag accented with natural materials and elegant accessories. Horticultural Interpreter Charles Day demonstrates simple floral techniques and provide plenty of materials to fuel your creative spirit. $20/$30 Wave Hill Member per arrangement. The Hudson River valley hosts an impressive diversity of bird species, even during the winter months. Explore Wave Hill’s tranquil gardens and woodlands with naturalist Gabriel Willow to observe birds in their winter habitats. Ages 10 and older welcome with an adult. Severe weather cancels. A 28-acre public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades, Wave Hill’s mission is to celebrate the artistry and legacy of its gardens and landscape, to preserve its magnificent views, and to explore human connections to the natural world through programs in horticulture, education and the arts.
HOURS Open all year, Tuesday through Sunday and many major holidays: 9AM–4:30PM. Closes 5:30PM, March 15–October 31.
ADMISSION $8 adults, $4 students and seniors 65+, $2 children 6–18. Free Saturday and Tuesday mornings until noon. Free to Wave Hill Members and children under 6.
