Public Advocate Letitia James Supports Call for Divestment from Assault Weapon Manufacturers
As we mourn tragedy after tragedy caused by guns, New York City must take a powerful stand against companies that contribute to carnage and violence across our nation. As a trustee of the City’s largest public pension fund, I have repeatedly called for the divestment of all public pension dollars from gun retailers and manufacturers, and I am encouraged by the Mayor’s call today to divest from assault weapon manufacturers. The powerful interests stopping common sense gun control have refused to listen to the American people. Our public money must not be invested in companies that fundamentally undermine our safety. We must work together to protect our communities, and our make our City and our country a safer place.
