SENATOR SERRANO CELEBRATES
WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Each year, our nation dedicates the month of March to honor and celebrate the significant achievements of so many notable women throughout history. Women’s History Month is a time to greater explore the contributions that women have made to education, science, the arts, women’s rights, government, and so many other prestigious fields. This year’s theme is “Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government.”
New York State has been the home to so many incredible women in history. From leading abolitionist Sojourner Truth, to women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony who inspired the passage of the 19th amendment – permitting women the right to vote, to Eleanor Roosevelt who transformed the role of First Lady into one of strength and active participation, to Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to the United States Congress, our nation has greatly benefited from the dedication, strength and temerity of these inspiring women.  As we take the time to honor and celebrate the great accomplishments of these extraordinary women, we must also recognize all of the women who silently contribute to our society and touch so many lives.
