National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 10th-16th

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark today announced that, in honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the Annual Survivors’ Tribute and Display of the Bronx Clothesline Project will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2016.

District Attorney Clark said, “Every April since 1997, our Crime Victims Assistance Unit has organized this tribute, and year-round, the compassionate staffers respond to and address the concrete and emotional needs of victims. They truly embody this year’s theme of ‘Serving Victims, Building Trust, and Restoring Hope.’”

The Survivors Tribute is a powerful event that reveals the journey from being a crime victim to becoming a survivor. This year’s tribute will feature testimonials from people who endured domestic violence, sexual assault, and a shooting.

The Bronx Clothesline Project is a poignant memorial consisting of T-shirts created by those who have triumphed over the personal trauma of a crime. It celebrates the strength and courage of victims and serves as a reminder that they are not alone, as the shirts are hung side by side. Each shirt symbolizes pain, healing and empowerment, and provides a window into a survivor’s life.

A portion of the Clothes Line will be on display, as well as other works of art created to express the journey from crime victim to survivor.

The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, 1040 Grand Concourse at the corner of 165th  Street.
