Democratic Convention edition

New York Democrats led by Governor Cuomo, US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie cast NY’s delegate votes for favorite daughter, Hillary Clinton, thus making her the first female presidential nominee of a major political party. 

  • Insiders were talking about Mayor Bill de Blasio’s early (read: poor) 5:30PM Wednesday night time slot for addressing DNC convention-goers. The NY Post viewed as Democratic Party embarrassment about the numerous probes by federal, state and local prosecutors of the de Blasio administration. On Tuesday, it was revealed that City Hall engaged in a cover up of the lifting of the Rivington House deed restrictions that made millions for the investors who flipped it,
  • Morrisania Assemblyman Michael Blake will be on the main stage this evening at 6PM EST during #DemsInPhilly. Interested Bronxites can watch the convention live on their mobile devices or computers at https://www.demconvention.com/watch-live/. (No word on what his role will be Wednesday evening).
  • Brooklyn Rep. Hakim Jeffries reported that he, Rep. Yvette Clarke and Rep. Gregory Meeks will also address the convention (at 6:45PM) on the night that Senator Tim Kaine is nominated as Hillary Clinton’s running mate.
  • State Senator Adriano Espaillat will be special guest at Thursday, August 18 fundraiser for Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda, who supported Espaillat, including sending volunteers to his primary campaign, in his winning bid for the Democratic nomination to replace retiring Congressman Charlie Rangel in the 13th C.D. covering Harlem and the west Bronx.

Bronx Board of Elections Update


  •  Insurgent district leader candidates Samelys Lopez and Michael Beltzer have had their petitions challenged by their former fellow Bronx Young Democrats, Kenny Agosto and Glendalis Delgado as objectors.

  • 78AD insurgent Ischia Bravo faces a petition challenge from her former colleagues in the Bronx Democratic County Committee. Ms. Bravo is mounting a challenge against long term incumbent Assemblyman Jose Rivera.

  •  Assembly Member Latoya Joyner, her county committee and judicial delegate slate in AD77 will be unopposed for the September Primary.

  • Unite Here Local 100 (representing more than 12,000 members in New York) and the Metallic Lathers and Reinforcing Ironworkers Local 46 (1,500 workers)have thrown their support behind Ischia Bravo, Democrat  for the 78th State Assembly District.

  • District Leader Yudelka Tapia reports that she is unopposed in AD86.
