Halloween Jack O’lantern

It’s that time of the year again, folks. Break out the cotton cobwebs, cartoonish costumes and of course, candy. Yes indeed, today is Halloween.

And more than a mere holiday, Halloween functions as an industry in and of itself, with nearly 41.1 million trick-or-treaters ages 5 to 14 partaking in the holiday in 2015 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

That’s a lot of costumes.

But it doesn’t stop there. With states like Illinois producing 318 million pounds of pumpkins and over $ 1 billion dollars in fresh apples (who doesn’t like a good bobbing?) exported from the United States in the past year alone, needless to say, Americans love Halloween.

What about candy, you may ask?

A whopping 23.8 pounds were consumed per capita in 2008 (the most recent year for which data were available).

And for the best places in the Bronx to collect your confections, look no further than Tenbroeck Avenue in the Morris Park section of the borough and City Island, both of which were mentioned by real estate news site, 6sqft for having choice pickings.

Have a ghoulish good night! Be safe, have fun and remember it only comes once a year.
