MONTEFIORE PUMPS UP BRONX AND WESTCHESTER ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE AMERICAN HEART MONTH

Screenings, Food Demonstrations and Educational Activities Throughout February

NEW YORK (February 1, 2017) – Associates at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart & Vascular Care will host a series of heart-healthy events in observance of American Heart Month.

Montefiore leadership will kick-off Heart Month on Thursday, February 2, at 11am at the Henry and Lucy Moses Division of Montefiore in the main lobby, located near the East 210 Street entrance, with welcome comments followed by a group walk of the “Montefiore Mile,” a designated indoor, one-mile path.

“For 60 years, the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart & Vascular Care has been at the forefront of delivering the most innovative therapies for adults and children with heart disease,” said Robert E. Michler, M.D., professor and chairman of cardiothoracic & vascular surgery, professor and chairman of the department of surgery, Samuel I. Belkin Endowed Chair, Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “Starting with our first open-heart surgery in 1957 and our 250th heart transplant this past December, we have continued to pioneer, develop and refine our approach to care. We’re thrilled to invite the community to celebrate these achievements, and join our staff as active participants in heart health education and care.”

Montefiore’s Heart Month program offers a wide variety of events in both the Bronx and Westchester, including heart healthy screenings, healthy eating and cooking demonstrations, and educational talks. A full schedule of Heart Month events can be found at www.montefiore.org/heartmonth.

“One of the most important ways to lower your risk of heart disease is to take action with preventative lifestyle changes – eating right, exercising regularly, and working with doctors on personalized care plans,” said Mario Garcia, M.D., professor and chief, division of cardiology at Montefiore and Einstein, and co-director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart & Vascular Care. “Every small, incremental step towards improving your heart health can improve your quality of life and longevity.”
