Less than 72-hours after police officer Miosotis Familia was shot and killed in an unprovoked attack in Fordham Heights, police are now investigating a second officer who was wounded today in Foxhurst.

Few details were available in the latest incident, reported at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Faile Street, a half a block from the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit and Bronx Robbery Squad.

Officers reported a possible “accidental discharge” of an officer’s weapon, the officer reported to be with the Manhattan North Narcotics unit. The officer was said to have been shot in the leg and was reported to be in stable condition at Lincoln Hospital.

Later, police sources confirmed that the detective accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday afternoon when he tripped while attempting to stop a car at a busy intersection in the Bronx.

Arriving units reported two suspects were in custody at the location. Police could not immediately say if the officers gun discharged while chasing or apprehending the pair, who were taken into custody from the scene.

Meanwhile, the 46th Precinct has announced a vigil for Familia and her family that will be held outside of the Ryer Avenue station-house on Saturday, July 8 at 8 p.m., the public is welcome to attend.
