Chairman Crowley Statement on Trump Administration Plan to Separate Families Crossing the Border
(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement on reports that President Trump’s administration will separate families in an effort to curb illegal immigration into the United States:
“President Trump and his anti-immigrant administration have reached a new low. Stripping babies from their mothers’ arms is inhumane. Separating scared children from their fathers is cruel. If President Trump was serious about reducing the number of individuals who enter the United States illegally, he’d work with Congress to fix our broken immigration system and address the root causes of the violence that drives people to leave their homes. The decision to separate families at the border is nothing more than a telling sign that this administration doesn’t value the humanity of those risking everything to find a better, safer life in America.”
