Klein Honored by Riverdale Children’s Theatre

Senator Jeff Klein was recently presented with an award from the Riverdale Children’s Theatre at their Starry Night Gala for his steadfast support of the renowned nonprofit in The Bronx. He was honored with the Claddagh Award by the founder and Executive Director of the Riverdale Children’s Theatre, Derek Woods.

The Riverdale Children’s Theatre offers full-scale theatrical productions across the borough to students ranging from four to eighteen years of age and prides itself on serving kids from all cultural backgrounds. Plays are put on at venues in Riverdale, Pelham Parkway and Woodlawn. Each season is different, and the current one features Peter Pan, RENT, Alice in Wonderland, Oliver and Beauty and the Beast.

The burgeoning educational theatre program for Bronx youth received a financial boost this fall – in the form of a $30,000 state grant secured by Senator Klein, who has long been a staunch advocate of the arts and arts programming for local families. Students received the news during their first rehearsal for their January production of their take on RENT School Edition where Senator Klein got to see their work in action first-hand. He was even treated to an impromptu performance of the classic song “Seasons of Love.”
