Polar Bears Take Annual Dip for Homelessness
by David Greene
A crowd of 100 participants and supporters turned out for the 4th Annual Dip Against Homelessness, held Saturday, February 17 at Orchard Beach. Joined by members of the larger and more popular Brooklyn club, swimmers of all ages, ethnicity’s and religions warmed up on the beach with some exercises, before taking the plunge into the chilly waters. With the air temperature hovering at the 32 degrees mark, the Bronx Polar Bears had been holding their “Valentine’s Swim” for at least the last decade, but since getting BronxNet and BronxWorks as sponsors, the event now encourages members to donate winter clothes to those less fortunate.
