Bronxchester Little League Fun Day

Saturday morning the Bronxchester Little League unveiled their new field and scoreboard at Waters Place with officials of the league, parents, coaches and public officials.

The Fun Day and Ribbon cutting ceremony also signified the start of a new season for the league. Bronxchester Little League, established in 1950, is the oldest Little League organization in the Bronx. Over the years youngsters have lived a dream and played baseball for the league and a majority move on to participate and play high school and college baseball.

Over the past few years Bronxchester alumnus Mike Aviles, a Concordia College graduate, was drafted and was a member of five teams including the Royals, Red Sox, Indians, Tigers, and Marlins.

Improvements of the field were made possible by the generosity of Visionworks the third largest retail optical chain in the United States.

Officials who attended included City Councilman Mark Gjonj, Assemblywoman Nathalie Fernandez, Jamaal Bailey and a representative from the office of state Senator Luis Sepulveda.
