Endorsement for September 13 Democratic Primary: State Sen. Jeff Klein

State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) hosted his annual spring children’s festival at St. Theresa’s Elementary School in the Bronx.

The Bronx Chronicle proudly and loudly endorses State Senator Jeff Klein in the upcoming Democratic primary election on September 13. Sen. Klein is an able, experienced and diligent state lawmaker. He is well-deserving of re-election as our representative in Albany.

Sen. Klein is being challenged by Alessandra Biaggi, a 31-year-old attorney, who was born in Mount Vernon and raised in Pelham, NY. Ms. Biaggi recently served in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Counsel’s Office and was the Deputy National Operations Director for Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016. Aside from legal internships and fellowships, both jobs are her only forays in public service. At this time, we believe that Ms. Biaggi needs broader political and community experience before she can ably represent the interests of Bronx residents and her Westchester county neighbors.

Unlike Ms. Biaggi, Jeff Klein has three decades of experience in politics, law and public service. First elected to the State Senate in 2004, Jeff Klein has built a reputation as a committed, effective and trusted public servant, who has championed and passed landmark legislation for the health, welfare and economic prosperity of residents in the 34th District, and all New Yorkers. He presently serves as Deputy Minority Leader for the Senate Democratic Conference.

In the Democratic primary on September 13, The Bronx Chronicle urge voters in the 34th senate district to cast their votes for Sen. Klein because Jeff has stood up for labor and has passed life-changing legislation for New York workers and their families. From passing the $15 Minimum Wage to Paid Family Leave, to passing legislation that staves off the devastating affects of the US Supreme Court Janus decision, Sen. Klein has fought to advance and protect workers’ rights to fair wages, benefits and safe work conditions.

Senator Klein has been endorsed for reelection by: Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club, Liberty Democratic Association, Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association Local 831, RWDSU, Hotel Trades Council, NYS Democratic Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Bronx Democratic Party, The Correction Officers Benevolent Association, 1199SEIU, the Uniformed Firefighters Association, DC37, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Westchester County Correction Superior Officers Association, Westchester Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association, the NYC Council of School Administrators (CSA), the Empire State Supervisors and Administrators Association (ESSAA), the New York City Uniformed EMS Officers Union Local 3621, the New York City Uniformed EMTs Paramedics & Fire Inspectors FDNY, AFSCME Local 2507, Assemblymember Amy Paulin, the New York City Police Benevolent Association (NYC PBA), LIUNA-NY, Transportation Workers Union Local 100, the New York League for Conservation Voters (NYLCV), the Nassau County Sheriff’s Correction Officer Benevolent Association (Nassau COBA), the Suffolk County Correction Officers Association (SCCOA), the Fire Marshal Benevolent Association of Nassau County, the Nassau County Police Medic Association, the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), Police Conference of New York, Inc. The Bronx Democratic Party, Bronx BP Ruben Diaz Jr, state senators Luis Sepulveda, Jamal Bailey; Assembly Members Michael Benedetto, Marcos Crespo, Nathalie Fernandez, Jeff Dinowitz; City Councilmembers Mark Gjonaj and Andrew Cohen – also Westchester Assemblymember Amy Paulin are supporting Jeff for re-election.
