Negron: Levine And Trost Remember “Boss” At Pinstripe Bowl

By Ray Negron

The 2018 pinstripe bowl is just around the corner and at this time of year I think about how much George Steinbrenner loved college football.  While watching the press conference at Yankee Stadium regarding this great event, it’s terrific to hear Yankees team President, Randy Levine express how much the Boss loved college football and how important it was for the new Yankee Stadium to house this event.

Randy’s continued passion for the memory of Mr. Steinbrenner continues to be very important for the Yankees brand. Yankee Chief Operating Officer, Lonn Trost, also praised the memory of the Boss and mentioned how important it is to continue this event and all different events at this great arena called Yankee Stadium.

It’s wonderful that during the winter there are activities still going on in the south Bronx. That great sport programs from different parts of the country get to come to New York to perform here. For me, the best part of this event is to look at the faces of these young athletes, who even though they are young, they do realize the magnitude of where they are playing.   It reminds me of years ago when the great Latin singer Mark Anthony exclaimed, “So this is where Babe Ruth played?” Before doing a concert at the old stadium.

“We are thrilled to welcome the student-athletes, staff and families of the University of Wisconsin and University of Miami to the 2018 New Era Pinstripe Bowl,” said Mark Holtzman, Executive Director of the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. “The historic stage of Yankee Stadium will provide the perfect showcase for these two fantastic teams, and New York City during the holiday season will offer an unforgettable backdrop for everyone taking part. We are excited to add to the legacy of the New Era Pinstripe Bowl with this premier matchup.”

The 2018 New Era Pinstripe Bowl will feature the University of Wisconsin and the University of Miami on Thursday December 27, at Yankee Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 5:15 p.m. (EST). Wisconsin will be making its 17th consecutive bowl game appearance (the longest active streak in the Big Ten and fifth-longest active streak in the FBS) and its first appearance in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

Miami will be making their sixth consecutive bowl game appearance and their first appearance in both the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and at the current Yankee Stadium. The Hurricanes played once at the original Yankee Stadium in the 1962 Gotham Bowl.

Special events, promotions and community outreach will take place throughout New Era Pinstripe Bowl week to create an unforgettable experience for fans, families, students and staff. Scheduled visits to many New York City landmarks will be taking place.

The bottom line is that it is great that the legacy of Yankee Stadium and George M Steinbrenner lll is kept alive by Randy Levine, Lonn Trost and the Yankee Organization. For the good of sports, entertainment and of course the fans worldwide this will always be very important.
