Three-fifths Clause Awareness Day, 3/5

Bronx City Councilman Andy King is again hosting a 3/5 Awareness Day at Hostos Community College on Tuesday, March 5. The doors open at 6 PM and the program starts at 7 PM. Bronxnet Television host Daren Jaime will moderate the panel discussion.

Three-fifths clause awareness day calls attention to the so-called “three-fifths clause” in the US Constitution which required that three-fifths of Africans slave population in a state be counted towards a state’s apportionment for congressional representation. This requirement conflicted with fact slaves lacked recognized US citizenship, civil rights and voting rights.
