Bronx Chamber of Commerce Women of Distinction Luncheon

Last week, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce held its annual Women of Distinction luncheon.

Nine Bronx high school women each received scholarships in the amout of one-thousand dollars towards their college education. The scholarships were from Con Edison to Melisa Calderon, Isaury Guzman, and Shamil Santos. Simone Development awarded Rahima Khatun. Metro Optics awarded Ashmani Apou. Sandra Erickson Real Estate awarded Stephanie Erzuah. Orange Bank awarded Briana Allen. And F & F Insurance gave its scholarship award to Josphine Lewis.

The Mistress of Ceremony was local WCBS-TV reporter Mary Calvi. Ms. Evelyn Oliver of Con Edison (also the luncheon chairperson) welcomed the bustling room at Villa Barrone Manor. Bronx Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Joe Kelleher gave opening remarks before turning the podium over to the chamber’s president Lisa Sorin. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, the first African American female District Attorney in New York State, gave the keynote address.

Dr. Esther D. Henry, Senior Pastor, the House of the Lord Ministries Inc., and WNBC-TV Today in New York anchor Darlene Rodriguez received honoree awards.

Councilman Mark Gjonaj wowed the gathering by pledging to give another one-thousand dollar scholarship to a student chosen by the Bronx Chamber of Commerce.
