It was an evening filled with music, food and good company to celebrate the best of the boroughs as The Bharati Foundation and Las Maravillas Del Exodo Inc. along with Community Partners including National Latino Peace Officer Associations – Bronx Chapter, and the Young Caribbean Professionals of Westchester, all came together to host the 3rd Annual Five Boroughs Community Leadership Awards and Fundraiser.

The event was held at Carifesta Restaurant in The Bronx, a family owned business and staple in the neighborhood for over twenty years serving Indo-Caribbean and Guyanese style cuisine.
“This event is about the individuals and we are shining a light onto them and the work that they do,” says Bishop David Maldonado Jr. as he placed a rose corsage designed by Sandra of Elegant Floral Design in Queens on the hand of Honoree and District Manager, Ischia Bravo of Bronx Community Board 7. “Each year we add more and more names to the list of Honorees and our reach is going beyond the boroughs as we can see at tonight’s event.”

Honorees recognized on the program included: Council Member Elect Tasha Diaz of Yonkers Council District 13, Bronx Regional Representative Sophia Zayas from the Office of Governor Andrew Cuomo, Community Relations Director and District Leader Kevin C. Riley, M.P.A of the New York State 83rd Assembly District, Government Relations Strategist Yves Filius of the New York Civil Liberties Union, Retired Police Officer Ramesh Parabdin from Brooklyn 90th Precinct, Community Organizer and Activist Sherwyn Lovell, DJ and Host Oscar Alvarado “DJ SABRONXURA”, Executive Director Amira Mustapha who founded Art Defined Production, Sergeant Hector Lopez who is the Chairman of the Westchester Hispanic Law Enforcement Association (WHLEA) and District Manager Ischia Bravo serving Bronx Community Board 7.

“I am beyond excited to organize this event and recognize movers and shakers who are well connected in their own fields,” says Bharati Sukul Kemraj, Founder of The Bharati Foundation. “Do not let their humbleness take away from the fact that they are part of the seen and unseen network that works hard and assist in running the boroughs, including Westchester” she added.
The event included music, food, raffle prizes, presentations to the Honorees and a special toy drive that brought in toys for all ages for three family shelters in The Bronx. Organizers hopes to continue this event yearly. For more information e-mail: bharatikemraj@gmail.com
