The Women’s Caucus of the New York City Council denounces the racist and xenophobic rhetoric used by the President and White House staff in the midst of the current  COVID-19 public health crisis.

For weeks, we have been hearing reports of increasing public bias against Asian Americans, both in New York and across the country, with some incidents even escalating to physical violence. The President has done nothing to address these concerning reports. Instead, he himself continues to assign blame and use terms such as “Chinese virus” while addressing the nation. This kind of  behavior, language and fear-mongering is wholly unacceptable.

During this pandemic across the country when we need leadership from the President and his Administration, it is both disappointing and disturbing to hear him use this language.

Under the leadership of Co-Chairs Vanessa L. Gibson and Farah N. Louis, the Women’s Caucus works to improve the everyday lives of women and transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people across the city through public policy and budget advocacy.
