What:  Families are going hungry in Soundview, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Bronx. Rising Ground will be handing out 100 hearty meals to families, thanks to the generosity of Hudson Hall, a Zagat-rated restaurant specializing in smoked meats and Eastern European fare. Rising Ground will use the event to remind families that the Soundview Family Resource Center continues to support families, even though its physical facility is closed due to COVID-19.

Why:   Families Ground’s Soundview Family Resource Center is a pillar of the community that is strengthening the safety net for families adversely affected by COVID-19. It wants families to know they can call the bilingual Rising Ground program at (914) 893-0702 for referrals to food banks, assistance in applying for unemployment benefits, and other matters. The center also is offering its parenting and anger management courses online during the pandemic.

Who:   Johana Manzueta, director of the Soundview Family Resource Center, organized the event and will be available to be interviewed in both English and Spanish.
