COUNCIL MEMBER FERNANDO CABRERA CALLS ON NYPD OFFICERS TO “TAKE A KNEE” DAILY AT NOON

Bronx, NY – Council Member Fernando Cabrera is calling on NYPD officers to “take a knee” every day at noon in respect for and remembrance of those who have lost their lives to police violence.

“My heart was moved by the officers who voluntarily knelt down to pay respects to George Floyd and him family last weekend, during the protests,” said Cabrera.  “These officers are truly ‘officers of the peace,’ and their actions promote healing, rather than perpetuating discord, anger, hurt and sorrow.  If we are to survive as a city, as a nation, we must have meaningful dialogue and commitment to change that ensures that everyone is treated with respect and dignity by law enforcement.  We’ve had numerous regrettable incidents between civilians and police officers that have left people’s hearts in pain, and with festering anger.  Changing the tone of our interactions is the first step.  New York City’s police force should lead the nation I’m calling on NYPD to “take a knee” every day at 12:00 noon to lead the healing process.”

Council Member Cabrera is available for interviews.
