The New York City & Vicinity District Council of Carpenters and the Carpenter Contractor Alliance of Metropolitan New York donate food, school supplies and care packages throughout the months of August and September at four community events in the Bronx and Manhattan.

September 11, 2020, New York, NY – Union carpenters and contractors are finishing off the summer by volunteering in New York communities where members live and work. The New York City & Vicinity District Council of Carpenters and the Carpenter Contractor Alliance of Metropolitan New York are partnering up to volunteer at four community events throughout Manhattan and the Bronx in August and September to donate food, school supplies and care packages to communities in need. 

In total the union helped distribute 220 cases of food, PPE, and supplies; 2,000 care packages for adults and children; 2,400 backpacks with school supplies; and 2,000 hot packaged meals to residents of Manhattan and the Bronx.

Volunteering in our communities has always been a priority at the District Council, and now as our neighborhoods continue to battle the devastating effects of COVID-19, union carpenters are here to provide extra support.

Union carpenters began their efforts at the Bronx River Arts food drive with Community Board 6, Key Foods, and BRAC. Four members of the District Council helped distribute 120 cases of food, PPE, and hand sanitizer to over 150 Bronx families. 

On August 28^th, the District Council continued their volunteer work at Our Lady of Angels Church in the North West Bronx, where five members helped distribute 100 cases of food to Bronx residents.

The carpenters continued their community volunteering with New York State Senator Jamaal Bailey on September 4^th in the Bronx. The event was with Spectrum, Bridgefield Civic League, and North Central Bronx Hospital to provide 400 backpacks and school supplies to children in the 36^th District.

Tomorrow, on September 12^th, the Carpenters will be volunteering with New York State Senator Brian Benjamin at the Hope for Harlem / Feed Harlem Initiative at First Corinthian Baptist Church in the Bronx. The event aims to feed 2,000 families, provide 2,000 care packages for adults and children, provide 2,000 backpacks with school supplies to children, and 2,000 hot packaged meals. The event will take place from 12-3pm.

“New Yorkers have fallen on hard times in recent months. As families get ready to send their children back to school in the coming weeks while balancing returning to work, the District Council is here to lend its support however we can,” said Joseph Geiger, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of New York City & Vicinity District Council of Carpenters. “Our volunteer work offers an opportunity to give back to our communities and make sure they are taken care of. New York Carpenters always have their communities’ backs.”

“CCA Metro and the NYC District Council of Carpenters improve and build our city on a daily basis.
