Salamanca Enters race for Bronx BP

Councilman Rafael Salamanca Throws his Hat Into the Race for Bronx Borough President

Councilman Rafael Salamanca in his announcement for Bronx Borough President claims to have created over 7,000 units of truly affordable housing and securing designated units for the homeless. The announcement then goes on to say that the growth and improvement that has taken place under the current Bronx BP is at risk, and that a proven leader with the experience and skills to tackle these issues is needed.

Candidate Salamanca goes on to say that like many others he had lost a family member to COVID-19, continuing with problems  such as housing, small business closures, and an overwhelmed health system, that have suffered due to the leaders from Washington down to the city level failing the people. He then repeats that experienced leaders are needed to take on the challenges such as the COVID-19 Pandemic, a recession, housing and food insecurity, economic inequality, and overdue reforms to the criminal justice system.

A council member since winning a special election in February 2016 Salamanca has one more term to serve in the City Council, but it would be tough to run against an incumbent Borough President in four years when Salamanca would have been term limited out of the City Council. Rafael Salamanca his over ten year career as the District Manager of Bronx Community Board Two, while serving as the President of the 41st Precinct Community Council, and on the boards of the Community Healthcare Network and Hunt’s Point Economic Development Corporation.

Bronx Borough President candidate Rafael Salamanca concluded his press release by saying, ‘The Bronx is tough and resilient, the Bronx will get through these challenges and come back stronger, and that it would be an honor to serve as the next Bronx Borough President’.

It is expected that Ralph Acevedo the current Community Board Two District Manager will be put up to replace Salamanca in the City Council. It is also believed that State Senator Luis Sepulveda will announce that he will be entering the race for Bronx Borough President by the end of this week.
