I’m proud to lay a wreath with Consul General Jaquez at the only monument in the United States to Dominicans who fought for the United States in World War II, to celebrate their heroism.   During these challenging times, their service is a reminder that together, we can overcome adversity, even COVID-19.”

In 2014, Council Member Fernando Cabrera allocated $200,000 in capital funding to build a memorial honoring the more than 300 Dominican men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives for the United States during World War II.  These soldiers have been largely excluded from U.S. history.
