Walks with the Gardeners: The Alpine House, Terrace and Wall (On-site)

Spring is a time of floral abundance in and around the Alpine House, when every nook and cranny seems to be in bloom. Cultivating these plants from cool rocky mountaintops is both demanding and rewarding, requiring special skills and techniques. Guided by Wave Hill gardener Susannah Strazzera, discover the creative ways that diminutive alpine plants are grown for display in pots, sand beds …

Family Art Project: Take Flight! (On-site)  

Saturday May 15, 10AM-1PM

Learn the art of flying by giving yourself wings to soar, flap, and glide. To create your new plumage, use eco-dyes to give yourself vibrant feathers that will not be missed from your place in the sky. The number of families able to participate at any given time will be limited to about five. If you arrive and capacity is full, program staff will provide a “come back” card so you will have first entry for the next session.Shine only. Check the website starting at 8AM morning of, for the status of the day’s program.Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and to work with natural materials.Have your masks on when you arrive! And please be prepared to respect physical distancing throughout your stay.The location will be the Conifer Slope, just to the right of, and below, Wave Hill House. Make handmade pop-out and accordion style journals to document your observations with designs that unfurl as flowers do, recording your naturalist studies. Join us in a collective walk as we make notes in our field journals and use recording devices to document the sounds of the garden and woodland. The number of families able to participate at any given time will be limited to about five.
