Ex-Rep. Jose Serrano Picks Vanessa Gibson for Bronx Borough President

Former Congressman José E. Serrano announced his endorsement of Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson for Borough President.

“Vanessa Gibson is an outstanding leader who has dedicated her career to serving the people of the Bronx. Time and again, she has served her community with energy, enthusiasm, and a record of results, and she will make an excellent Bronx Borough President,” said former Congressman José E. Serrano. “In her time on the Council, Vanessa has been a true leader — passing first-in-the-nation legislation to protect tenants from eviction, and bringing funding to Bronx schools, parks, and NYCHA developments. She is a force to be reckoned with! I look forward to the work Vanessa Gibson will do as our first female Borough President, and my fellow Bronxites should too.”

“I thank our longtime Congressman José E. Serrano for his friendship and endorsement. Congressman Serrano has been leading the way on racial equality, social justice and environmental justice for decades and has dedicated his life to advocating and fighting for all Bronx residents. He was the longest serving Hispanic Member of Congress and a true role model for many aspiring to run for elected office. During his time in the New York State Assembly and House of Representatives, he led the way on bringing jobs and economic development to the South Bronx, investing in public housing, protecting and investing in our schools, parks, open spaces and the Bronx River. I am so honored to have worked with him and his staff through the years as our longtime Representative and am thankful for his endorsement of our campaign. said Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson. “I share the Congressman’s commitment to achieving justice for our underserved and underrepresented communities, and his support means so much to me. As Borough President, I hope to build on Congressman Serrano’s legacy by bringing new jobs to the Bronx, investing in NYCHA, protecting and expanding our parks and waterways, and ensuring that every family has access to healthy and nutritious food.”

In her campaign for Borough President, Gibson is focused on recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing new jobs and opportunities to the borough, and ending the distinction of being the least healthy county in New York State. Serrano; Assembly Member Latoya Joyner; Council Members Diana Ayala, Laurie Cumbo, Mark Treyger, Adrienne Adams, Carlina Rivera, Daniel Dromm, Farah Louis, and Karen Koslowitz; former Council Member James Vacca; former Deputy Bronx Borough President Aurelia Greene and Manhattan Borough President C.
