NYC Sanitation Hiring Summer Interns, Cohosts Open Call for Public Artist in Residence Program

Nearly 40 Paid Internships Available Including Opportunities in Fleet Management, Human Resources, IT, Sustainability, and the Medical Bureau

Together with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Sanitation Seeks Paid Public Artist in Residence to Use Creative, Collaborative Art to Promote Department’s Work

The New York City Department of Sanitation is now accepting applications for its summer internship program. Nearly 40 positions are available in bureaus throughout the Department, including Fleet Management, Human Resources, IT, Sustainability, and the Medical division. Applicants should be enrolled in college or be a recent college graduate.

While the Department’s full-time uniform employees handle the crucial physical work of keeping the city healthy, safe and clean, a host of “civilian” workers help keep the Department running. From Human Resources, to Information Technology, all bureaus have a part to play. The Department’s summer interns assist in this crucial work while gaining experience in the day-to-day operations of a large City agency. The full list of available positions may be found at http://www.nyc.gov/sanitation. Applications are due June 18, 2021.

Additionally, together with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Sanitation is seeking an artist to join the Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) program. The PAIR program is based on the premise that artists are creative problem solvers, and, to that end, embeds socially engaged artists in City agencies to utilize their creative, collaborative art practice to offer innovative solutions to pressing civic challenges.

The Department of Sanitation is seeking to work with an artist who will bring dignity, respect, and appreciation to the critical—but often invisible—workforce that makes life in the City possible. Through this collaboration, the Department hopes to make the work more visible to the public and, at the same time, foster a greater appreciation for the artistic process within and among the agency and workforce. Applications are due June 27, 2021. More information on this opportunity is available at https://nyculture.submittable.com/submit.
