FIRST-EVER CHIEF DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION OFFICER

Valerie Kennedy Appointed to Role

 

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark today announced the appointment of the first-ever Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer for the Office of the Bronx District Attorney, Valerie Kennedy.

 

District Attorney Clark said, “Diversity, equality and inclusion is a priority in all workplaces, and all employees will have an opportunity to excel in their careers. I am pleased to appoint Valerie Kennedy to Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, and to my Executive Staff. With Valerie’s experience in this field, she will assist the Office in hiring and retaining a diverse, qualified staff to continue my commitment to growing our talented workforce to better serve the people of the Bronx.”

 

Ms. Kennedy brings extensive, valuable experience from private and public sectors. Before joining the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Kennedy founded her own diversity consulting and crisis management firm, which included the integration of DEI principles into organizations. Ms. Kennedy also served in the Office of the Mayor, where she developed a Diversity and Inclusion strategic and talent development plan for the Mayor’s Office of Appointments. She also served as the first head of diversity and inclusion at the New York City Economic Development Corporation.  

 

Prior to that position, Ms. Kennedy served as Counsel to the President and Chief of Staff with CUNY Medgar Evers College, focusing on diversity and inclusion policy issues, workplace climate, and labor issues.  She also served in the New York State Attorney General’s Office, and in private practice with law firms and corporations.  

 

Ms. Kennedy earned her bachelor’s degree from Brown University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law.  She is certified in Crisis Management by Harvard University’s Kennedy School.
