The gardens are flourishing, full of the sights and scents of summer. This week, experience our living collection, site-specific art in the galleries and family activities. Sunroom Project Space solo shows by exhibiting artists Kamar Carter and Salvador Muñoz in Glyndor Gallery are on view until August 15! More details below.

Meet the Artist: Salvador Muñoz – Wave Hill

“Meet the Artist” is an ongoing series of conversations between exhibiting artists and the curatorial team at Wave Hill. This program provides an opportunity for Wave Hill visitors, the artist’s community and others to learn more about an artist’s creative process and themes within their work. Join New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellow Salvador Muñoz and Curator of Visual Arts Eileen Jeng Lynch for a conversation about Muñoz’s installation in the Sun Porch. They will discuss Muñoz’s large-scale, faux flora sculpture of Xochipilli that honors the pre-Columbian Mexica deity associated with flowers, creativity and sexuality, as well as Muñoz’s incorporation of plants for their medicinal properties. Muñoz will also touch upon the development of a community-driven project that provides an opportunity to share remedies and resources. Family Art Project: Myth and Morphology – Wave Hill

Morphology is the study of botanical form, and it has long inspired folklore and legends. Observe plant anatomies through the art of botanical illustration to inform your own myth-making. Through observational drawings and layering collages of the myths take time to imagine what wisdom you may glean from the way these plants grow. Questions? Join a morning bird walk with our naturalists and seasoned birding guides Gabriel Willow and Paul Keim. Explore the gardens and woodlands to look for birds that are attracted by Wave Hill’s diversity of habitats. Birders of all levels welcome. Ages 10 and older welcome with an adult.
