NYC Sanitation Hosts Graduation, Promotion and Award Ceremony at Maimonides Park – the First Such In-Person Event in Nearly Two Years

 

New and Promoted Employees Take Oaths of Office, Other to Receive Awards

 

WHAT:

The New York City Department of Sanitation will hold an outdoor GraduationPromotion and Award ceremony for nearly 1,000 Department employees.

 

WHO:            

  • Graduates: Newly appointed employees, including Sanitation Workers and Sanitation Police Officers
  • Promotions: Oaths of office for newly promoted employees, including Sanitation Commissioner, First Deputy Commissioner, and Directors of bureaus, as well as Chiefs, Superintendents, Supervisors, and officials within the Sanitation and Environmental Police, and Enforcement units.
  • Award Winners: Award winners, including Medal of Valor and Distinction recipients, Employees of the Year recipients, as well as the Commissioner’s Awards of Excellence

 

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Department will swear in more than 700 new Sanitation Workers to the job, all hired this fiscal year. An additional class is currently completing training and will be sworn in at a later date in the near future.
  • The Department will recognize the promotions of some 240 employees, in both uniform and civilian titles.
  • The Department will present Medals of Valor to five employees who helped evacuate New Yorkers from fires.

About the New York City Department of Sanitation

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe and clean by collecting, recycling and disposing of waste, cleaning streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2,000 rear-loading collection trucks, 450 mechanical brooms and 705 salt spreaders. The Department clears litter, snow and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.
