The abuse of Trump abused us all

I choose to operate under the principle of justice and fairness. It’s a sentiment that many Americans, myself included, hold dear. I also firmly stand by the notion that no individual, regardless of their societal status, should be beyond the reach of the law. Regrettably, I observe that some individuals in positions of power, such as attorneys general, judges, and district attorneys, sometimes misuse the laws they are sworn by oath to uphold. This situation was recently apparent in the case involving Donald Trump in New York City.
Whether you admire, tolerate, or detest him, Trump is entitled to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. If found guilty, there must have been a crime, and the law’s application should follow established precedent. The law should never be manipulated to serve a purpose it was not intended for.
Before the trial began, there were noticeable irregularities. The judge and the attorney general do not typically pronounce a U.S. citizen guilty before the trial’s conclusion, but both did declare Trump’s guilt before the case began. In a case of this magnitude, a jury typically consists of the defendant’s peers. This was not granted by the judge in Trump’s case, leading one to question the reasons behind this decision. It appears as though the outcome was predetermined before any defense was presented. Everyone knew, including Trump’s legal team, that this was not going to be a fair trial.
Additionally, the law should remain impartial to all factors except the law itself. Yet, the Judge and DA, both Democrats, have previously expressed their disdain for Trump. To my mind, the political affiliations of those who enforce the law should remain undisclosed. Politics has no place in the courtroom, as it is detrimental to all involved. Imagine standing before a Judge who had previously expressed their contempt for you, and then hearing the AG declare their intent in running for office to “get” Trump. For what crime? At the time, she was running for AG and didn’t know, but she was determined to find any law to pin him with, even if it meant distorting the law for political reasons.
In a business-related case involving finances, there is usually a victim, someone who has been swindled or defrauded. However, in this case, there was neither a victim nor a crime. The accusation was that Trump overvalued his properties, a practice that every homeowner and real estate investor commonly engages in. However, there is value in his brand, so he did nothing out of the ordinary. Banks and insurance companies are aware of all of this practice globally and conduct their own property evaluations, upon which they base their loan approvals and insurance risks. The banks were content with their dealings with the Trump Organization, as all loans were repaid promptly. Everyone profited, including New York City and State through tax revenue from these businesses. Therefore, there was no loss, no victim, no crime, only a deep-seated animosity towards Donald Trump from an AG and a Judge who seemed to purposely manipulate the system for political reasons. Now, those who detest Trump might revel in this, disregarding the law and its fair application towards Trump, their primary concern being retribution. But retribution for what? Often, it’s for the very same things they themselves are guilty of. They disapproved of his personality, deemed too abrasive, and they do so in an abrasive way. They resented his wealth, assuming he must have cheated to accumulate it. Yet, they idolized billionaires who shared their political views, such as George Soros, and while he nearly single-handedly destroyed the English economy, they love him. They despised Trump’s playboy lifestyle prior to his presidency in the White House, but overlooked Bill Clinton’s indiscretions during his time in the White House. They were offended by Trump’s tweets, while others were affronted by their own tweets of hatred. It’s the irony of hatred; it justifies the abuse of anything they despise as some sort of moral high ground, giving themselves a break for even doing worse.
This case will surely be dismissed, as the judge was already overruled four times in the case, and both the DA and the Judge are aware it will not stand. To add to the drama, they levied a fine of $355 million plus 9%, totaling nearly an additional $100 million, the amount they needed to impose to bring down his business. One should question where this money will go since there was no victim. It’s a clear indication of the gross miscarriage of justice that has occurred. The real question is, why did the DA and Judge act this way, aside from their apparent dislike for him? The answer is straightforward – to provide fodder for their echo chamber of hatred, enabling them to boast about his conviction and allowing the media to sensationalize it. They know that if a lie is repeated often enough, it becomes the truth for many, as they unwittingly become part of this echo chamber of hatred, believing that the narrative they’re being fed must be true.
While this is concerning, the case is far more dangerous due to its implications for the abuse of every U.S. citizen’s rights. Once the law is so blatantly manipulated and abused based on political affiliation, it sets a precedent for similar maltreatment. It can quickly spiral into a witch hunt, with opposing parties adopting the same tactics to protect their interests. Imagine everything taken from you based on your political party of choice because of this foolish judgment based on hate, not on law.
This is why Trump’s popularity is on the rise – people disapprove of the system’s abuse and fear the system and its puppeteers much more than they would ever fear Trump. When they examine Trump’s policies, they find no fault in them, only in the man himself, as is true for all people. They realize that his personality doesn’t affect their lives, but his policies do. Comparing the last three years of policies, the difference between the Trump era and the Biden era is stark, like transitioning from a peaceful walk in a neighborhood park to a ceaseless war zone and an epic set of failures whose impact we have yet to fully feel, but we all know it’s coming.
It’s essential to remember that our democracy’s strength lies in the collective power of its citizens. It’s our responsibility to preserve the principles that have made our nation great. We must not allow political maneuvering and personal grudges to erode our society’s very fabric.
The first step towards reclaiming our judicial system is holding those responsible for such power abuses accountable. We should demand transparency and call for an independent investigation into the motives behind these politically charged cases. The truth needs to be uncovered, and those who have exploited the system for personal gain should face the consequences.
In addition, we should advocate for reforms that safeguard our legal system’s integrity based on law, not political ideology. We need measures in place to prevent the establishment of new legal precedents solely for targeting individuals based on politics. Our laws should be applied consistently and justly, irrespective of political affiliation or personal bias.
Furthermore, it’s crucial to reinforce the checks and balances within our government. We need to ensure that no single branch or individual can wield unchecked power. This entails holding our elected officials accountable for their actions and demanding transparency in their decision-making processes.
Ultimately, restoring fairness and integrity to our judicial system requires an engaged and informed citizenry. We need to educate ourselves about the issues at hand, remain alert for signs of abuse, and actively participate in the democratic process. By doing so, we can reclaim the principles that have made our nation a beacon of justice and equality.
Faced with these challenges, we must remember that change is possible. History has shown that when people unite for a common cause, they can overcome even the most formidable obstacles. Let’s stand together now, for the preservation of our democracy and the protection of our fundamental rights. The time for action is now.
We know the names and the faces of those who did what and why. Now, for their abuse of our laws, they must be held to account. Because nobody is above the law, including those who administer it.
Just stating the obvious, once again!
