New Commissioner of Consumer Affairs Addresses Bronx Chamber of Commerce Members

Monday night at F&J Pine Restaurant, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce hosted a night of food, drink, and networking. Along with networking, the chamber welcomed 8 Bronx-based businesses as their newest members.

Bronx Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Lenny Caro introduced the night’s guest speaker, Julie Menin, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs. Only being appointed to her position for six months, Julie Menin addressed her plans as commissioner in regards to small businesses. Her first focus point is to reduce fines for small business owners and is hoping to decrease that number by $5 million.

Other issues that Commissioner Menin touched on was plans to put all 41 inspector checklists online, translate information documents in 26 different languages, allow business owners to choose what language the inspection of their business will be done in, and improving paid sick leave laws.
