Rev. Dr. Kimberly Holmes in her essay, The Omniscience of God
He Knows What’s Best For Me, wrote,
“I’m concerned about the challenging and controversial times in our nation. Unjustified homicides, inadequate healthcare, economic deprivation, homelessness, the recent decision of the U.S.
Supreme Court concerning a woman’s right to choose, and the imprisonment of American citizens overseas have all got me thinking about the omniscience of God. The prefix omni- comes from a
Latin prefix omnis- which means “all” and -science also comes from the Latin word scientia which means “knowledge.” Accordingly, omniscience means “all-knowing.”
Dr. Holmes draws attention to issues that are of great concern to many of us. Each area she has identified have impacted the lives of people beyond the borders of the USA, it has had a ripple effect which touch the lives of people worldwide. Dr. Holmes goes on to say, “From the beginning of time and even before, God knew what we would face in this world. Yet He tells us to be of good cheer, for He has overcome the world.” She did not leave us wondering how we are going to get through these challenging times and devastating outcomes when she declares the omniscience of God, His ability, and His willingness to overcome the world.
Athletes will tell you that victory happens in the mind, long before the event starts. In like manner, the Bible says that our faith precedes our victory, for without faith, we can have no victory.
The Apostle John tells us in his circular letter to the churches near Ephesus, that it is the faith of the believers that gives victory over the world. A life of faith frees believers from fear and promises victory over all the challenges of the world.
Dr. Holmes concludes her essay by saying “If we just rest in our Omniscient God with faith, He will provide.” I wholeheartedly embrace her conclusion and offer this challenge to my readers; whatever it takes, develop victorious faith.
