Mayor De Blasio and Councilman Vacca Hold Town Hall Meeting at Villa Barone Manor, August 10

Mayor Bill de Blasio, joined by Councilman James Vacca of the 13th District, will hold a town hall meeting this Wednesday at Throgs Neck’s Villa Barone Manor to discuss public safety concerns in the borough.

Up for consideration is Councilman Vacca’s road diet proposal for the stretch of East Tremont Avenue between Waterbury Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard, where recent accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians have resulted in a number of fatalities.

The diet would introduce turning lanes for motorists and shrink roadways to just a single lane in either direction, reducing the speed of traffic in an area plagued by various curves and blind spots.

The proposal, developed by the Department of Transportation as part of the mayor’s Vision Zero traffic safety initiative, was initially presented to Community Board 10 in spring 2015, where it was subsequently rejected.

The meeting commences at 6 p.m. Those wish to attend are asked to RSVP at (212) 788-1412.
